![]() < Return to Contents 3.e - Difference between Items and FoldersWhen navigating within courses in Blackboard, it is important to understand the difference between an "Item" and a "Folder". Basically, a Folder is an area within a course that contains Items and other Folders. An Item is a piece of information, content, assignment, quiz, test, etc. that can be viewed or completed by the student. Many students can get confused about how to locate a particular test, assignment, or other piece of material for the course because it is contained within a "Folder". Folders and types of items can generally be identified by the types of "icons" that appear next to the name of the folder or item. See the screenshot below for examples of common types of Folders and Items:
