3.d - Using the Breadcrumbs in Blackboard

Blackboard contains a very common, and helpful navigation item that can save you time when trying to find pages in your courses. This is called "breadcrumbs". The terminology stems from stories about leaving "breadcrumbs" along a journey so that you can find your way back to where you started. Well, that's exactly how the "breadcrumbs" in Blackboard work.

As you move from page to page in a course, Blackboard keeps track of where you are and allows you to jump to any of the pages that you used to get there. The breadcrumbs are found along the very top of the main course content pane:

As you can see from the above example, this student started at the "Courses" tab, then clicked on the class "Test Class", then clicked on "Communications", and finally on "Collaboration". Now, if this student wanted to jump straight to the main page for this course, they could simply click on "Test Class : Test" and the browser would navigate directly to that page.

As you use Blackboard, keep an eye on the "Breadcrumbs" feature, and use it to help you quickly jump from one page to another saving you valuable time.
